Tevez to contest further punishment

Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez intends to fight a potential six-week suspension and £1.5 million fine, ESPNsoccernet understands.

Tevez, 27, is to attend a hearing on Wednesday over his alleged refusal to come on as a substitute in City's 2-0 Champions League loss at Bayern Munich last month.

The Argentina striker denies that he was unwilling to enter the fray at the Allianz Arena, instead insisting that the disagreement was over his refusal to repeat his warm-up.

Nonetheless, Tevez was suspended for two weeks by City, a ban which he has since served while on full pay, and has now returned to the club, training away from his first-team team-mates.

While City seem unlikely to go as far as terminate Tevez's contract, it is understood a further six-week ban and fine is in the offing, subject to PFA approval.

Tevez is expected to defend his corner, with the attacker prepared to fight the allegation and take his extra punishment all the way to a Premier League hearing.

City boss Roberto Mancini still has the full backing of the club's hierarchy over the matter, the Italian having suggested Tevez would never play again under his stewardship.

However, speaking after Tuesday's 2-1 win over Villarreal, Mancini intimated his stance may be softening, stating: "I'm soft because I'm a good man and I can't understand everything but I would prefer not to speak about this situation."
