Dalglish frustrated as Liverpool fire blanks

Kenny Dalglish rued some poor finishing from his Liverpool side as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield by Norwich City on Saturday.

Grant Holt's second half header cancelled out Craig Bellamy's opener shortly before half-time in the day's evening kick-off, as the Reds were unable to capitalise on a number of glorious chances they created throughout the match - with players guilty of some poor finishing and Canaries goalkeeper John Ruddy also pulling out some spectacular saves.

Dalglish believes it would have been a fair reflection of the contest if his side had come away with all three points.

"I think when we look back and reflect on the chances we missed, and the little bit of luck you need in front of goal that we never got, we'll realise that we've hit the woodwork four times, the goalkeeper's made a great save late on, and early on from Luis (Suarez) ... I think really it was a game that on the face of it we should have won," Dalglish told ESPN.

"We cannot do much more than we did; some of the passing and movement we did was superb."

Refusing to be worried by the growing gap between Liverpool and the top three - the Merseyside club are now four points behind Chelsea, having played a game more - Dalglish believes the squad will just write off the game as unlucky, and focus on being better in front of goal next time.

"Norwich played a couple of weeks ago at Old Trafford and got no luck (losing 2-0), they could have come away from there with something. Maybe they used their luck here," Dalglish added. "We got to be pleased with 99 per cent of the play, the only one per cent we were missing was the finishing.

"Whether they sat back of were forced back is a matter for debate, but certainly we had the majority of the game. We'll just have to get back on the training ground and work on our finishing."

Dalglish's opposite number, Paul Lambert, struck a different tone - describing the point as 'monumental' for the club.

"That's monumental after what's happened to us, coming from League One and going to Anfield and getting a draw," Lambert said. "It was a massive performance. First half I thought we were a little overawed by the occasion, but in the second half I thought we were excellent."
