Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is hopeful of soon beginning talks over a new contract at Emirates Stadium.

Walcott's current terms at Arsenal expire in 2013, the wideman having signed an extension in 2009 after joining the Gunners from Southampton in 2006.

The England international has made 186 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 34 goals, since his move from the Saints, and Walcott appears willing to prolong his time in North London.

He said in the People: "I will listen to what Arsenal have to say - hopefully we will sit down with the club soon and talk things over. This can still be a big season for us, although we are not looking too far ahead."

Walcott, 22, insists the mood within the Arsenal camp is positive, with the club recently enjoying some positive results following a difficult start to the season.

He said: "To be honest, we have already forgotten about the first few games. There is no point dwelling on it. After the win in Marseille this week it's looking very positive. Team morale is great - the best it has ever been."
