Newcastle United's veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper has joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a month's loan.

Harper, 36, has been unable to oust Tim Krul as first-choice keeper and has been alternating back-up duties with summer signing Rob Elliot this term. However, he has now made it clear that he wants to be playing and has taken up the chance of a loan move.

"Harps is keen to play," Newcastle boss Alan Pardew told the Evening Chronicle. "It is a real coup for Brighton.

"Steve has been unfortunate to have Tim come through in the way he has. He is a top young keeper and will play at the top for years to come."
