Villas-Boas defiant over Chelsea's defence

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has launched a defence of his management style and the club's backline in the wake of the 5-3 loss to Arsenal on Saturday.

The Blues threw away a lead on two occasions as Arsenal, who looked fragile at the back themselves, sliced through their rearguard with alarming regularity. The defeat came one week after a defensive error from David Luiz handed QPR a decisive penalty in their 1-0 win at Loftus Road.

But Villas-Boas, whose side are third in the table and nine points off leaders Manchester City, remains committed to playing attacking football - and has no plans to change his ways over the coming weeks.

"The philosophy is a personal value and it's a club value and you should never sell it cheaply," he said. "It's something that makes us all proud and we will stick to this philosophy throughout this league. We just have to correct things to try to get our philosophy through.

"Before this game, we were among the three best defences in the Premier League, so I would argue with anybody that our defensive organisation was a problem before this game. We committed mistakes and we will try to evolve and maybe we can improve for the game against Blackburn."
