Neil Warnock has labelled Anton Ferdinand a "twit" for subjecting himself to public abuse by using Twitter.

Ferdinand is currently embroiled in an FA investigation into an alleged race row with John Terry. The incident in question took place during Rangers' recent 1-0 win over the Stamford Bridge side.

Since that day, Ferdinand has witnessed racial chants being chanted by sections of the Chelsea support during their Champions League game with Genk. And the defender has also suffered vile abuse from certain followers on Twitter.

Warnock clearly has sympathy with his player, insisting those found guilty of the racial chants should be jailed. But he also mocked Ferdinand for using a social networking site for which Warnock clearly has little time.

''Anton's concentrating on the football side and being a good defender,'' the QPR boss said. ''He's had his moments and lapses over the last few years, but we are trying to get him to be consistent and, touch wood, he has been as consistent over 10 games as we could have asked for.

''I think he's a twit for using Twitter. I don't agree with it, but I suppose if you're into that you have to take the rough with the smooth.

''I've already told him to come off Twitter. I'm not a big fan of people talking to big groups of supporters when there's a problem at any club. There's only one winner in that situation. You should keep your head down and do what he's done. I think he's played really very well and let things takes their course.''
