John Terry is almost certain to be named in the full England squad and lead the team out as captain against Spain at Wembley, ESPNsoccernet understands.

Terry is being investigated for an incident of alleged racist abuse towards Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, but England manager Fabio Capello is adamant he should not be punished before his case has been heard, and must be considered innocent until proven guilty. Capello has made clear his position to the FA.

An ESPNsoccernet source said on Friday: "Fabio has given much thought to the situation, and we all appreciate if it a difficult one. However, it would be unfair to punish him by leaving him out of the England team, before any judgement or indeed any charges have been made.

"The FA might have a different view, but normally the selection of the players is with the manager who has the final say and Fabio is inclined to select him. if, though, he is found guilty then there is no doubt that John Terry can face being left out of the England team."

Rio Ferdinand is being considered for the same squad, despite his brother Anton's involvement in the Terry investigation.

The source added: "It is 50-50 regarding Rio and he will be watched again this weekend, but Fabio does not select his teams on political or diplomatic grounds, but what is best for the England team, and not what is going on behind the scenes."
