UEFA will hear the appeal against England striker Wayne Rooney's three-match ban on December 9.

At present, Rooney is scheduled to miss the entirety of the group stage at Euro 2012, which will be held in Poland and Ukraine. He was shown a red card for kicking out at Miodrag Dzudovic in England's 2-2 qualifying draw away to Montenegro on October 7.

The FA announced on November 4 that they intended to lodge an appeal, having been made to wait for UEFA's written explanation about Rooney's punishment.

Rooney's case has been aided by the fact that Dzudovic has emailed UEFA to plead leniency on the Manchester United striker's behalf.

England boss Fabio Capello has told Rooney he will play no part in the warm-up games ahead of Euro 2012, as the Italian tinkers with a formula for success in the absence of his talismanic forward.

Reports suggest Capello is likely to take Rooney to Euro 2012 regardless of his ban, but the appeal nevertheless raises the prospect that the suspension could be shortened and the 26-year-old could play in the tournament before the knockout stages begin.
