Tottenham stand firm on Bale

Joe Jordan is confident Tottenham can fend off reported interest from Barcelona in Gareth Bale.
Bale has continued to win admirers with his dashing displays down Tottenham's left flank and Barcelona mentioned the player directly this week. That they suggested they would not pay £33m for Bale is not the whole story, the fact that he is on their radar is the bigger issue.
Tottenham fought off interest from Chelsea in Luka Modric in the summer and manager Harry Redknapp's assistant, Jordan, feels Spurs could do the same with Bale despite the player admitting to being flattered by the links with Barca.
"The stance with Modric was that we would not be forced into selling him and that was proved," Jordan said. "I believe we can keep Bale. It's great when the best team in the world is talking about one of our players. I don't see why it would cause us a problem.
"To mention figures? I wouldn't start mentioning figures. Everyone's got a valuation, but it's important that your players are spoken about.
"We've shown that we can retain players and bring players in, both of which are important."
