Arsene Wenger "dreams" that Robin van Persie will sign a contract with Arsenal that keeps him at Emirates Stadium until the end of his career.

Van Persie's current deal expires at the end of the 2012-13 season, leading to speculation over his future just months after the likes of Samir Nasri left the club after entering the final 12 months of his terms.

Netherlands international Van Persie has been in scintillating form for the Gunners this season, netting 31 Premier League goals in 2011, and Wenger is keen to get his forward tied down before Europe's vultures begin circling.

"My dream is that Van Persie stays until the end of his career at this club," Wenger said. "I will do the maximum I can to try to convince him and I hope I will manage to do that."

Of Van Persie's display against Norwich on Saturday, where he netted twice in a 2-1 win, Wenger said: "He is exceptional and has something that you cannot give to people.

"For the second goal, he finished with a chip on his right foot - and I have never seen a bigger left-footed player than Robin van Persie. He always makes the right decisions in a fraction of a second when there is little time available, that makes him exceptional."
