Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hopes to be able to welcome midfielder Jack Wilshere back into the team at the end of January, insisting his recovery from injury is going "very well".

Wilshere, 19, is currently recuperating after having surgery to correct a foot injury he picked up while on international duty with England at the end of last season.

The midfielder recently revealed he was ready to pick up the pace of his rehabilitation and Wenger admits he is progressing well, but still does not expect to see him in action for at least two months.

"A target [for return] could be the beginning of 2012. When I say that, I mean the end of January. Or February," Wenger said.

"He is doing very well, but we'll assess him again next month."
