Liverpool get City in Carling Cup semis

Manchester City will take on Liverpool in the Carling Cup semi-finals, with Crystal Palace's reward for a win at Old Trafford a clash with fellow Championship side Cardiff City.
The draw ensures that this season's League Cup final will pit a Championship club against Premier League opposition for the first time since 2001, when Liverpool beat Birmingham on penalties at the Millennium Stadium.
Both Palace and Cardiff will be looking to draw inspiration from Sheffield Wednesday, who were the last club from outside the top division to win a major trophy back in 1991.
But whoever makes the final at Wembley will be heavy underdogs against seven-time League Cup winners Liverpool or current Premier League leaders City.
City will play the first leg at home, before visiting Anfield for the second leg while, in the other tie, Palace will welcome Cardiff to Selhurst Park before travellling to the Welsh capital.
Carling Cup semi-final draw:
Manchester City v Liverpool
Crystal Palace v Cardiff City
Ties to be played on the weeks January 9 and January 23
