Martin O'Neill has arrived at the Sunderland training ground ahead of his expected appointment as Steve Bruce's successor.

O'Neill was present at the club's Academy of Light training headquarters with former chairman Niall Quinn on Saturday morning as they looked to finalise his appointment.

The 59-year-old opened talks with chairman Ellis Short on Thursday and negotiations extended throughout Friday. The discussions are understood to have been positive, and sources at the club had indicated a deal was set to be concluded over the weekend.

Eric Black, Bruce's former assistant, will take charge of Sunderland for Sunday's game against Wolves but O'Neill is likely to be in the stands at Molineux.

The Northern Irishman has been out of work since resigning his post at Aston Villa in August 2010.
