Hernandez ruled out for month

December 3, 2011

Sir Alex Ferguson was left with mixed emotions following Manchester United's 1-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa as he revealed Javier Hernandez could be ruled out for up to a month after he was carried off early in the first half.

The striker appeared to twist his ankle when it became caught in the Villa Park surface and there was a lengthy delay while he received treatment, but Hernandez was unable to continue and was replaced by Antonio Valencia.

Phil Jones scored his first goal for United after 20 minutes as Ferguson's side regained second spot in the league with the slender win. Speaking to ESPN about Hernandez, Ferguson said: "I think he's torn ligaments in his ankle so he could be out for four weeks.''

However, aside from the injury to the Mexico striker, Ferguson was satisfied with the result and especially the performance of Jones. "We deserved a victory,'' Ferguson said. "We had great possession but at times we were a bit wasteful with chances in the second half. Villa Park is a difficult place to go.

"Phil Jones is a natural centre-back but he's so versatile he can play in midfield. We've got options where Phil can play.''
