Levy plays down Redknapp England link

Harry Redknapp has no interest in becoming the next England manager at this moment in time, according to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to replace Fabio Capello after next summer's European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, with many calling for an experienced English coach to be handed the role.

The 64-year-old's credentials speak for themselves: since guiding Portsmouth to their first FA Cup in 69 years in 2008, he has transformed Spurs from relegation candidates to Premier League title contenders (they are currently fourth in the table).

Redknapp recently said he hoped the Football Association would not name a new Three Lions boss until after Capello has stood down, and it now appears he will not be throwing his hat into the ring.

Levy, speaking at the club's AGM at White Hart Lane, said: "Harry has 18 months left on his contract. We have had a conversation that says as far as Harry is concerned, he is very happy here and that he doesn't particularly want to consider England at the present time. We will worry about that situation if it arises in the summer.

"I hope we have a great season and that we can finish in the top four or, who knows, maybe even higher. We want first. I spoke to Harry and told him not to be too despondent, because if we win our game in hand against Everton, we could be only four points behind Manchester City."
