Former England rugby captain Lewis Moody has urged Manchester United star Darren Fletcher to stay strong in the face of his battle with colitis.

United confirmed this week that Fletcher would be taking an extended break from the game in order to battle the inflammatory bowel condition that some feel could curtail his career.

Moody returned to the top of the sport after being diagnosed with the condition he has described as a "life sentence". All cases are individual, with some more serious than others, but Moody is urging Fletcher to remain positive.

"I know exactly how difficult it is and I wish Darren all the best because it can be dealt with," Bath flanker Moody told The Sun.

"I know how frustrating it can be because it can take quite a time to work out exactly what is wrong. And while there is no definitive cure you just have to accept that every case is individual."
