Esteban has red card for fan attack overturned

AZ Alkmaar keeper Esteban has had his red card for kicking a fan during the game with Ajax rescinded.
The Costa Rican was confronted by an Ajax supporter and meted out his own punishment, flooring the pitch invader - actions which earned him a red card from referee Bas Nijhuis.
AZ coach Gert Jan Verbeek ordered his players off following the incident, claiming they did not feel safe. Esteban's actions polarised opinion, but he earned widespread backing for defending himself and the Dutch FA has elected to overturn the red card.
"The keeper was attacked unexpectedly and therefore the prosecutor judged that his mood caused his response against his attacker," the KNVB said in a statement on its website.
A 19-year-old was arrested and has been handed a lifetime ban by Ajax.
Ajax led the match 1-0 at the time of the abandonment and the KNVB has yet to decide on whether to replay the last 16 tie or award it to the hosts.
