Cole aims for another England chance

On-loan Lille midfielder Joe Cole has made it one of his New Year's resolutions to try and force his way back into Fabio Capello's England plans before Euro 2012.

Cole is spending the season with the French champions after falling out of favour with parent club Liverpool, following an underwhelming first season at Anfield which saw him plummet down the pecking order for both club and country.

But, having played some eye-catching football in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League since making the switch to France, Cole is hopeful he can do enough to persuade Capello to give him another chance for the Three Lions.

Cole won the last of his 56 England caps in the World Cup last-16 defeat to Germany nearly 18 months ago, but hopes that is not it for his career at international level.

"It's at the back of my mind," Cole told Sky Sports News, when asked about a recall. "You can't drive yourself mad because it's out of my hands. I'm a proud Englishman, I love playing for my country.

"I've had some great times in an England shirt and I don't want to never play for England again. I definitely still have a lot to offer."

Getting another chance under Capello will depend on his ability to keep up his form at club level, and Cole hinted that he is enjoying life at Stade Lille-Metropole so much that he would be prepared to consider extending his stay.

"At the moment I'm happy - I'm happy here, I'm playing well and it's all going good," he said.
