Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has been given an immediate one-match ban after being found guilty of improper conduct during the club's recent match with Fulham.

Suarez - who already has an eight-game ban for comments made towards Patrice Evra hanging over him - was charged with making an obscene gesture at Fulham fans during the game at Craven Cottage on December 5 and, after admitting the charge, will now be forced to sit out Friday's game with Newcastle in punishment.

"Liverpool player Luis Suarez will begin a one match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA charge of improper conduct," the FA confirmed in a statement.

In addition the Uruguayan was fined £20,000 for the offence, and warned about his future conduct.

The club was also fined the same amount for an offence relating to the game, after they were found guilty of failing to control their players in the aftermath of Jay Spearing's red card. Liverpool also accepted the charge, but disputed the fine.

"Liverpool Football Club have been fined £20,000 by the FA and warned as to their future conduct for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the league fixture at Fulham," an FA statement read.

"The club admitted the charge, which was in relation to the dismissal of Jay Spearing, but did not accept the standard £20,000 penalty for the offence. However, at an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing the fine was imposed."

Suarez has not yet begun his eight-match suspension for the comments he made in relation to Evra, as he is permitted to continuing playing while the club wait on the official written judgement from the FA. Liverpool have 14 days from the date they receive those documents to decide whether or not to appeal.
