Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic's agent has rubbished claims his client's career is in the balance.

Serbian centre-back Vidic is facing the prospect of a full year on the sidelines after suffering serious knee ligament damage in the Champions League defeat at Basel on December 7.

Vidic's agent claims the reports are wide of the mark and expects his client to be in contention for the start of next season.

"Nemanja is feeling good and waiting to start his rehabilitation," Silvano Martina said. "The first forecasts said the injury could last for a year but I believe he will be ready to go in five or six months. Nemanja will be back next year - stronger and better.

"He tore ligaments, which is serious, but thanks to medical progress it is not right to talk about the end of his career.

"The doctors assure us the recovery will run smoothly and he will be back very quickly. There is no doubt he will be his old self again."
