Bayer cool Berbatov bid talk

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser has labelled recent comments attributed to him with regard to a move for Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov as "pure speculation".

Berbatov has found himself down the pecking order at United, although he did bag a hat-trick in the win over Wigan, and his agent claimed there had been contact with the forward's former club Bayer.

Holzhauser had been quoted as saying there had been contact, but he has now moved to clarify his comments insisting the only talks between himself and Berbatov were of a personal nature.

"This is pure speculation," Holzhauser told news agency DPA. "Also, we do not want to get involved as Berbatov is currently under contract with Manchester United."

Responding to reports of recent contact between himself and Berbatov, Holzhauser said: "I find all these rumours very annoying. The contact between Berbatov and I was of a friendly nature."
