Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has denied making contact with Lille regarding a move for midfielder Eden Hazard, but reaffirmed his interest in Roma's Daniele de Rossi.

Hazard's agent Marc Fourmeux claimed City were lining up a bid for his client, but Mancini insisted a January swoop for for the Belgian playmaker was unlikely.

"No, this is not true," Mancini said."He is a good player but at this moment we have not spoken about him."

However, Mancini did confirm his interest in De Rossi, although he admitted it would be difficult to tempt the 28-year-old away from Italy, where he is out of contract at Roma in the summer.

"De Rossi? He is a champion and he would be the perfect man to improve City," Mancini told Gazzetta dello Sport. "If we get the right signals, it is right that we try for him."
