Ferguson scoffs at Lampard rumours

Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished claims Manchester United are considering a bid for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.
Reports on Friday had linked the England international with a shock move to Old Trafford. Lampard has struggled to hold down a first-team berth this season, and with United lacking a seasoned head in midfield, it was claimed Ferguson could turn to Lampard to fill the void.
However, Ferguson, who has once again been linked with a move for Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder, was swift to dismiss the speculation.
"Do you really think Chelsea would sell to United in January? There's no foundation in that," Ferguson said. "Chelsea want to do something in the second half of the season so they want to keep their best players."
Despite a growing injury list, Ferguson confirmed he has no intention of addding to his depleted squad in January, claiming he is not interested in bringing in a "second-rate player".
"What can you get in January? The players we'd like, we can't get. If the alternative is to sign a second-rate player, we don't want to do that," he added.
"Our injuries have led to fans wanting us to sign someone but I don't want to sign a player who won't get a game when everyone's fit because he's not good enough."
