City lodge appeal over Kompany red

Manchester City have lodged an official appeal with the Football Association against the red card captain Vincent Kompany received in Sunday's 3-2 FA Cup defeat against Manchester United.
The case will be heard on Tuesday, meaning Kompany could be available for Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
If the dismissal is upheld, however, the Belgium international will face a four-match ban - having already been sent off once this season - which could also be extended if the FA deem the appeal 'frivolous'.
"City have today lodged an appeal with the Football Association relating to the red card issued to Vincent Kompany during Sunday's FA Cup tie with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium," a City statement read. "The FA have confirmed that a hearing will be held ahead of Wednesday evening's Carling Cup semi-final first leg tie at home to Liverpool."
City manager Roberto Mancini indicated on Sunday that the club would appeal, insisting the decision - made by referee Chris Foy after just nine minutes at the Etihad Stadium - was incorrect.
"We will do an appeal and I am sure that we will win," Mancini said. "There is no way Vincent shouldn't play against Liverpool in the Carling Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
"It was 300% not a sending off."
