David Moyes has conceded he is unlikely to receive any of the money from the sale of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal to reinvest in his Everton squad.

Moyes has seen Everton slip into mid-table mediocrity, with the Scot frustrated by the financial constraints that have been placed on him at Goodison Park.

Everton face Tottenham on Wednesday and Moyes has admitted he has been saddened to see Spurs pull away from them in recent seasons. The Toffees sold Arteta to Arsenal at the tail end of the summer transfer window for a fee in the region of £10 million, but that money has been swallowed up by the bank.

"Everybody knows that the bank wanted the [Arteta] money," Moyes is quoted as saying in The Times. "I think you all knew that."

Looking towards Wednesday's game with Tottenham, Moyes said: "It is only three or four years ago that it was Tottenham and us who were fighting for European places. But they have continued to kick on and they have brought in over the years some really good players - (Rafael) Van der Vaart was one, Scott Parker has done well.

"It is a little bit sad they are starting to pull away from us a little bit more than I would like. It's frustrating because all managers will say when you are close and competing with teams you never like to see them go away from you, but we are looking at them going away from us at this time."
