QPR cool on Tevez move reports

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes is keen to "do business as soon as possible" in the January transfer window, but has stated that a deal to bring Carlos Tevez to Loftus Road is "highly unlikely".

Mark Hughes was officially unveiled as the West London outfit's new manager on Wednesday, and the Welshman said he has funds available which he would be delighted to use to add top quality players. However Tevez, who Hughes managed during his own time at Manchester City and is surplus to requirements following a major falling out with officials, is not on the club's transfer radar.

"You never know - but it's highly unlikely," Malaysian businessman Fernandes told 5 live when asked about the Argentine forward. "He's one of the most highly-paid players in the Premier League and I think his mind is to go to another country."

Fernandes is however targeting some swift additions to the playing staff at the club, and continued: "I would like to do business as soon as possible, but we've got to make sure we get the right people at the right price. We have been affected by the African Cup of Nations, the suspension of Joey Barton and the injury blow for Ale Faurlin.

"We've still got 20 days, which is a luxury. We had seven days last time."

Commenting on the acquisition of Hughes as manager, Fernandes said: "He had a burning ambition to prove to the world what he was capable of. He saw our ambition as well. Money cannot buy ambition, so it was one plus one equals two and that's where we went."
