Luis Suarez has silenced suggestions that his FA suspension for racial abuse will lead to him leaving England, insisting he plans a "long career" at Liverpool.

Suarez is currently serving an eight-game ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. The Uruguay international still maintains his innocence, but he has been roundly criticised by the British media and leading figures in the game for his conduct throughout the controversy.

The talented forward will return in February, when Tottenham visit Anfield, and it is anticipated that he will experience plenty of hostility from opposing sets of fans. Indeed, Suarez's mum has expressed fear that players will "go looking for him", but the 24-year-old insists he is going nowhere.

"I was so excited to sign for Liverpool, it was a dream come true and I hope for a long career with them," Suarez said. "I grew up watching them and they are a club with such a big history, especially in the Champions League, and fantastic players.

"Steven [Gerrard] is a great player - I didn't realise how good until I came here. He trains how he plays and is a fantastic player and servant for this club. Having him back will help the team."

Wednesday's 1-0 win against Manchester City in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final saw Liverpool take a giant step towards Wembley, where they would meet the winners of Cardiff and Crystal Palace. Suarez would be back in time for the final, and he is determined to pay back the club's loyalty by winning them some silverware.

"I want to win a trophy for Liverpool," said the 24-year-old. "When I came here the team hadn't been doing so well but we are a much better squad now and we are capable of winning a trophy and getting back into the Champions League.

"Last year I was lucky enough to win the Copa America with my country, something which I never thought I would do, and we made history. Now I want to win something with Liverpool.

"When I'm back in the side that is the aim, and would be the perfect 2012 for me."
