Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has made plain his determination to keep hold of midfielder Steven Pienaar during the January transfer window.

Pienaar, 29, is a reported target for new QPR boss Mark Hughes, who is expected to be a major player in the market over the next few weeks.

The South Africa international has struggled with injuries ever since joining Spurs in January 2011, making just one appearance in the Premier League this season. But Redknapp insists he wants to keep hold of the former Everton winger.

"I wouldn't want to let him go if I can help it. Steven's a good player, he came on the other night against Everton and didn't give the ball away," Redknapp said.

"I don't have any need to weaken the squad - I'd rather have a good squad around me for these last 18 games than I would letting one or two go who could play a part for me. You never know when you'll run into injuries."
