QPR are reviewing a bid for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha while their proposed deal to bring Alex to Loftus Road stalls over personal terms.

City sources have previously confirmed to ESPNsoccernet that QPR have enquired about Onuoha, who made his first Premier League appearance of the season in Monday's win at Wigan, though the Rs have yet to lodge a firm bid for the former England Under-21 international.

However, new boss Mark Hughes might be forced to return to his old club for the 25-year-old centre-back because of problems with the Alex deal.

A source told ESPNsoccernet: "My understanding is that QPR are offering Alex something like £50,000-a-week with a four year contract.

"That's all well and good but Alex earns £70,000-a-week at Chelsea. QPR might go back with £55,000-a-week, but they might need to increase the length of the contract, otherwise it might fall through.

"The problem with a club like QPR is that they might invest £25 million on players, but if they do go down they are then lumbered with huge salaries.

"No one wants to get themselves into a situation where they could end up going bust. So money is tight and that's the reason for the lack of any real movement at the moment."
