Liverpool are close to bolstering their attacking options with the signing of Nikica Jelavic from Rangers, according to the striker's father.

Jelavic, 26, has been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox, with West Ham making a £6 million bid for him last week and QPR also thought to be interested in prising him away from the Scottish champions.

However, the player's dad Phillip insists that the Croatia international has his sights set on playing under Kenny Dalglish at Anfield.

"We know about the interest of West Ham and QPR," Phillip Jelavic said. "But Nikica has five or six clubs that are interested, including that of the great Liverpool.

"As for West Ham and QPR, Nikica is more ambitious than that. It's most likely that he'll sign for Liverpool. But there are a few days until the end of the window, so we'll see."

West Ham had appeared favourites to land Jelavic - Rangers' top scorer this season with 16 goals - though it is believed talks have stalled because of the forward's wage demands.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce confirmed last week that he was chasing Jelavic, saying: "Jelavic is one of many others because we have been made aware by sources that he might be available. We have made bids to bring people in - but have not managed it yet."
