Dalglish slams City over Carroll leaks

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has told Manchester City to keep their mouths shut about future transfer negotiations.

The Reds manager is disappointed the Premier League leaders decided to leak to the media details of Liverpool's offer to swap striker Andy Carroll for Carlos Tevez over the weekend, a revelation that has only increased the speculation about Carroll's long-term future at the club.

While refusing to confirm that such a deal was floated by the Anfield side, Dalglish rebuked City for deciding to publicise their transfer dealings.

"We're not going to get involved in justifying what people are saying - we don't have to," Dalglish said. "Get City to justify it, not us.

"We're not talking about any specific incident, but if you are going to do business in any way shape or form, no matter what life you are in, you don't need to disclose it until it's done.

"As [Liverpool chairman] Tom Werner said the other day, there's no point letting the facts get in the way of a good story - when he was talking about Stewart Downing being bought from a clip off YouTube. Do us a favour."

News of the proposal has led many to assume the club are looking to offload Carroll, signed for £35 million 12 months ago, as soon as possible - something that could further unsettle a player who is yet to offer much return on his transfer fee.

Dalglish denied that is the case, however.

"We don't have any problems with any of the players, because they are all going nowhere," he said. "Andy has said he is very happy here and doesn't regret coming. That's the best reference you can get, but for some reason the focus always seems to be on the big fella."
