John Terry could be axed as England captain on Friday with Football Association chiefs meeting to discuss the defender's future.

Terry is accused of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand but will not stand trial until July, after this summer's European Championship.

FA chairman David Bernstein has contacted the other 11 members of the board to seek their views on the situation. With such a serious charge hanging over him, many believe Terry should not remain as captain.

Bernstein is expected to speak to England manager Fabio Capello on Friday. Capello's stance is that Terry is innocent until proven guilty, but with the calls for Terry to resign growing louder, the FA could take action.

Terry was stripped of the captaincy two years ago after allegations of an affair with the mother of team-mate Wayne Bridge's child, but was reinstated 13 months later.
