Arsene Wenger has called on his players to stop feeling sorry for themselves and push on and claim fourth place in the Premier League.

With the Gunners staring down the barrel of defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League, it looks set to be another season without a trophy.

Arsenal are well off the title pace, but are currently sat in the final Champions League qualification berth.

They face a huge North London derby with Tottenham this weekend and Wenger feels it is the ideal platform for them to shake off their woes.

"Picking up the team is not the easiest task but that is part of our job," Wenger said. "You cannot complain - we are in a fantastic job and we have a big game in front of us.

"To feel sorry for ourselves would be criminal. We have a good opportunity to show we have character, that we have the mental qualities to play for this club. Let's go for it.

"Every game is massive now until the end of the season, but it is exciting. What is terrible is to play a game of no importance.

"We have an opportunity to get closer to Spurs and strengthen our position in fourth place, which is a big target.

"We live in a world where everybody is positive when it goes well, but life is not only ups. Successful lives are how people respond when you are down."
