Andre Villas-Boas has admitted for the first time that he does not know if he has the backing of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Throughout what has been a turbulent first season at the helm, Villas-Boas has maintained he has the full backing of billionaire owner Abramovich but has now confessed that may not be the case.

Saturday's 3-0 defeat of Bolton ended a miserable run of five games without a win but with their Champions League position hanging in the balance following the first-leg defeat to Napoli and the Premier League title long gone, the pressure remains on the shoulders of the Portuguese who fears he could go the same way as Carlo Ancelotti.

"We are now in the exact same moment as last year," Villas-Boas said. "It is an exact copy.

"The pattern of behaviour of the owner has led to a (manager's) downfall in similar situations or even 'better' situations.

"What will be the reaction? It will be one of the two, a continuation of the project and full support or just the cultural pattern that has happened before. We don't know."
