Netherlands striker Robin van Persie believes a "very good" England team is emerging - one that is capable of challenging the top nations at Euro 2012.

Van Persie played the first half of Netherlands' 3-2 victory at Wembley on Wednesday, in what was Stuart Pearce's first - and perhaps only - match as England boss.

England fell 2-0 behind but showed their resolve to battle back to 2-2 - only to suffer defeat when Arjen Robben hit a last-minute winner, his second goal of the contest.

Although that late setback will leave a sour taste in the mouth for England fans, Arsenal captain Van Persie feels there is plenty of reason for optimism.

Asked how he assessed England's performance, Van Persie told Sky Sports News: "Very good team. They were a bit younger today, but a very good team. They have a massive chance of playing well this summer.

"When [England] scored in the 90th minute, I felt it would be a draw. But we had one last attack, which was a bit lucky in the end."
