Harry Redknapp has praised Jermain Defoe's attitude and work ethic, and believes the Tottenham striker still has time to stake a claim for an England spot at this summer's European Championship.

Defoe has not featured as prominently as he would have hoped at White Hart Lane this season, but has still managed 13 goals for Spurs as he aims to secure a berth in England's Euro 2012 squad.

Redknapp confirmed Defoe would face Stevenage in Wednesday's FA Cup replay, and that he believes the 29-year-old will capitalise on his opportunity with one eye firmly fixed on the summer.

"Jermain has been disappointed not to play, but he's been good as gold and he'll play against Stevenage," said Redknapp. "Now it's up to him to take his chance.

"He could still make the England squad for the Euros. There's a shortage of top-class strikers.

"For now I'm only interested in him playing well for Tottenham. When the Euros come around, I hope he makes it for sure, but first he's got to make the most of his opportunities for us."

Redknapp continued: "Players are bound to be frustrated when they are not playing, but that's life. His agent was saying there were one or two clubs in for him in January, but it was all nonsense. He's here, his attitude has been first-class, he's playing against Stevenage and hopefully he'll be on fire.

"Louis Saha has come in and done well, and weighed in with a few goals, but he's had some fluid drained from his knee after the game on Sunday so he won't be available."
