Michael Dawson's hopes of playing at Euro 2012 were shattered after the Tottenham defender suffered serious ankle and knee injuries during Spurs' win over Stevenage on Wednesday.

Jermain Defoe scored twice as Tottenham reached the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Stevenage, but the win was marred by Dawson's injury.

Dawson was stretchered off after falling awkwardly following an aerial challenge with Chris Beardsley, and Tottenham boss Redknapp admitted if would be a "miracle" if the defender recovered before the end of the season.

"Michael has gone to hospital," Redknapp said. "It was his ankle and his knee. He has a pretty bad injury there. Looking at his injury it would be a miracle to think he is not [out for the season].

"You never know but it didn't look good at all. It is a big blow for us and for Michael. It's a big loss, he is a big professional. You want him around your team, that's for sure."
