Wayne Rooney is remaining fully concentrated on Manchester United's title challenge as they embark on the final 10 league games of the season, and is putting any personal milestones aside.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson intimated in the wake of his side's 2-0 win over West Brom - a result which lifted them to the top of the Premier League table - that he believes 40 goals from the forward should be enough to seal the title.

Rooney, whose brace in Sunday's win took his goal tally in all competitions to 27 for United this season, reacted to Ferguson's encouragement by stating his dedication to the collective cause.

"I'm sure we all would!" Rooney told MUTV when asked for his reaction to Ferguson's request. "I'm playing well and scoring goals so I hope that continues to help the team.

"To be honest, I obviously know what my [previous best] tally is and how many goals I still need to score to reach it. But I'm not focusing on that at the minute. I'm focused on the 10 games left and hopefully getting those points to help us be successful.

"If it happens then great, but the most important thing is for us to be winning trophies."

Rooney now has 20 league goals for United this season, with his previous best haul in the Premier League standing at 34 from the 2009-10 campaign.
