Ince wants to rescue Wolves

Paul Ince has declared he would accept an offer from Wolves to take over at the club with immediate effect in a bid to save them from relegation.

It was reported that Ince spoke to Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey when the search for Mick McCarthy's successor was still taking place - the day before current boss Terry Connor was appointed.

Wolves have managed just one draw from six games since Connor replaced the sacked McCarthy towards the end of February and are bottom of the table, six points from safety.

And ex-England midfielder Ince, who has managed Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn and Notts County, told the Express and Star: "When I spoke to Jez about the situation, he said the job was about experience, but a day later they appointed Terry.

"With all due respect to TC (Connor), I've got more managerial experience than him. I've saved teams from relegation, I've got teams promoted and I've managed in the Premier League.

"But the job at the moment is about motivating players and the fans and I feel I can do that. I feel I should be at the club now.

"If someone said: 'Take it for the last seven games', I'd do it, because it's Wolves and they're my club and they're only going one way at the moment.''

Ince added: "Wolves is a massive club. I went there when they hadn't been in the top division for 19 years and we won promotion at the first attempt. I played there for four years so Wolves is a massive part of my life.

"If I went there, they'd have nothing to lose. I'd tell the players the hard facts and say: 'Everyone thinks you're going down anyway' and try to get something extra out of them.''

Ince, who played for the Midlands club for four year between 2002-2006, was interviewed for the Wolves job in 2006 before the appointment of McCarthy.
