Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni will miss the club's FA Cup semi-final against Everton after the Football Association dismissed his appeal against a red card.

Doni was sent off during the midweek Premier League game against Blackburn for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, but appealed against the dismissal in a bid to be available for Saturday's derby contest.

However, an independent panel deemed the Brazilian to have no basis for his challenge - upholding the original punishment.

"Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni will serve a one match suspension with immediate effect after his appeal for wrongful dismissal was rejected," an FA statement read. "A Regulatory Commission heard the claim today [Thursday 12 April] and the suspension remains."

With Doni joining first-choice shot-stopper Pepe Reina on the sidelines, third-choice goalkeeper Brad Jones is set to start in goal for Kenny Dalglish's side at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have announced that Dr Peter Brukner, head of sports medicine and sports science, will leave the club by the end of the season.
