Steven Gerrard has dedicated Liverpool's FA Cup semi-final win over Everton to the memory of the 96 who died in the Hillsborough disaster.

On the eve of the 23rd anniversary of Hillsborough, Liverpool rallied from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

The entire squad will be at Anfield on Sunday for the Hillsborough Memorial Service and Gerrard was happy to dedicate the win to the 96.

"We've got to dedicate this win to all of the families connected with Hillsborough," Gerrard told the club's official website. "All of the players and the staff will be at Anfield tomorrow to pay our respects at the service, and it's so nice to be able to dedicate a win to those people."

Gerrard felt the victory demonstrated the spirit within Kenny Dalglish's squad.

He said: "I thought it was a difficult match because Everton are a good team. They strengthened very well in January and everyone knows they've got a superb manager, so we knew it was going to be tough.

"I thought as the game went on we got stronger and were unfortunate to go a goal down, but our response and our character was superb and we deserved to win this match.

"I won't lie to you, we were worried going a goal down because when you do that against a good team you know it's going to be difficult, but we all needed to stick together and show what we were all about and respond to going a goal down.

"We were superb in the second half and could have gone on to win 3-1 or 4-1 in the end."
