Arsenal forward Gervinho has urged his team-mates not to let their focus drift from third place as the fight for Champions League football next season draws to a conclusion.

The Gunners are currently in third place, five points ahead of Tottenham and Newcastle, and seven clear of Chelsea - although Arsene Wenger's men have played a game more than all three of their rivals.

Arsenal seemingly had a golden chance to cement their grip on third against Wigan on Monday, but they wasted it by sinking to a 2-1 defeat, which blows the top-four battle wide open.

Despite pressure from the chasing pack, Gervinho has told his Arsenal colleagues not to start looking over their shoulders.

"We want to be among the top three. The whole group is very motivated and we are already happy to be where we are," Gervinho told Arsenal Player. "We can still do better with the four matches coming. We are fighting only for third place, we don't think about fourth spot.

"Everybody is determined to fight until the end, from the players and the manager to the fans, to maintain third place. If we manage to keep it then everybody should be proud because we fought very hard for it."
