Di Matteo believes Chelsea need another goal

Roberto Di Matteo believes Chelsea will need to score against Barcelona on Tuesday if they are to reach the final of the Champions League.

The Blues go into the second leg of their semi-final against the defending champions with a 1-0 advantage - thanks to Didier Drogba's goal in the first leg last week.

Di Matteo is not going to set his side out to protect that advantage in the second leg, however, after acknowledging that he believes his side will need at least another goal if they are to progress.

While giving his side some licence to attack their vaunted opponents on their own turf, the Italian will demand Chelsea do as much as possible to limit Barcelona's chances throughout the 90 minutes.

"I think we will have to try and score a goal, that will give us a greater chance," Di Matteo said. "It will be difficult just to play for a goalless draw.

"Barcelona will create chances against every team that they play against, so we will have to try and score a goal against them tomorrow night for sure. But we also will have to limit the chances they can create against us."

Di Matteo believes that neither side can be considered the favourite to progress at this stage of the tie, with the contest evenly poised.

"The tie is half-time, it's 50-50 - both teams still have the same chance to go through," he said.
