ESPN understands Roy Hodgson is set to be confirmed as England manager at 4pm on Tuesday following a second set of talks with the Football Association.

On Sunday, Hodgson was revealed as the FA's first choice to become the new national team boss ahead of Euro 2012, despite Tottenham's Harry Redknapp having been viewed as favourite for the position.

Hodgson met with the FA on Monday and "positive" discussions were held, paving the way for the West Brom boss to be named as Fabio Capello's successor. A press conference has now been scheduled for 4pm on Tuesday.

The former Liverpool coach has previously expressed his willingness to manage England and it appears an agreement has been reached.

Hodgson's seemingly imminent appointment has received a mixed reaction, but the FA is confident the coach's experience at international level sees him as the right man for the job.

A source said: "The broadsheets have put forward a positive argument, but it is clear the popular press had been rooting for Harry Redknapp, and are disappointed.

"Roy will be seeking the support of everyone, the fans, the media, but he cannot ask for it, or expect it, but Roy would want everyone behind the England team."
