Chelsea unmoved on Di Matteo's fate

Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay praised Roberto Di Matteo's efforts after he led the team to FA Cup glory but remains insistent that no decision will be taken on his long-term future until the end of the season.

Di Matteo has overseen a remarkable turnaround in fortunes since the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas in March, leading the team to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday and to a Champions League final against Bayern Munich later this month.

"He's done very well since we brought him in as the interim manager and I think the players have responded particularly well as well, so there's been a good team effort," Gourlay said. "When you look back and where we've got to, I think we've come a long way."

However, Gourlay has already said that an announcement on the club's next permanent manager will not be made until the summer and, while captain John Terry has called for Di Matteo to be given the job, the Blues will not change course.

"I'm not going to change my mind on what I've said," he said. "We've just got to take the cliched one game at a time. That's honestly the way that we've treated things.

"We've got three games left - we'll see how we finish. Hopefully, we can take this forward now to Munich and make us all proud and then we'll take things from there."
