Steve Kean believes that Venky's is "100%" the right owner for Blackburn as the club aims to gain promotion from the Championship next season.

Rovers were relegated from the Premier League on Monday following a 1-0 reverse at home to Wigan Athletic - a game in which the fans protested against both Venky's and Kean.

Kean subsequently pledged that he would not consider walking away from the club, while a letter from deputy chief executive to Venky's, which called for the sacking of Kean among other things, was leaked. Reports have suggested that Hunt has now been sacked, although Kean would not comment on the matter at a press conference on Wednesday.

However, he did lay out his plan for how the club would try and re-enter the Premier League at the earliest possible opportunity, hinting at a drastic overhaul of the playing squad this summer.

"Their reaction was the same as ours, they were devastated," Kean said. "We are very numb. We have taken a step backwards but we now have to prepare a squad and the process has already started.

"I have spoken at great lengths with the owners and now we have to assemble a squad that is a very competitive squad. Moving forward it is going to be an exciting time for the club.

"We have taken a massive backward step but we have to look forward and make sure we can get back at the first time of asking. The owners are not going anywhere, I'm not going anywhere."

When asked if Venky's was the right owner for the club, he said: "100%. They're here for the long-term, I'm here for the long-term."
