Roberto Di Matteo may be forced to call on Chelsea's youth players for the Champions League final if Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Florent Malouda fail to shake off their respective injuries.

Di Matteo could be without as many as seven first-team players for Saturday's showdown at the Allianz Arena, and the Chelsea boss has admitted he may have to name youngsters on the bench.

Four players - captain John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles - are suspended for the final in Munich, while Cahill, Luiz and Malouda are all injured.

Defenders Cahill and Luiz have not played since April after picking up hamstring injuries - Cahill in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona and Luiz in the FA Cup win over Tottenham - but both players are set to return to training on Tuesday.

Luiz claimed on Monday that he was confident of being fit, but Di Matteo admitted Malouda, who was substituted as a precaution in Sunday's win over Blackburn, would be "touch and go".

He said: "Gary and David are going to try and train with us [on Tuesday]. Florent Malouda we still have to assess and it will be touch and go for him to be available for Saturday."

Di Matteo admitted he was preparing for the worst, priming some of the inexperienced members of the squad in case Cahill, Malouda and Luiz failed their fitness race.

"That's the worst-case scenario," he said. "If then, we will take some reserve team players on to the bench or the squad, and figure out what to do. I have been trying different options in training for a solution, just in case."
