Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has accepted a Football Association charge of violent conduct for an incident involving Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, but has denied a second charged relating to Vincent Kompany.

Barton has requested a personal hearing with the FA to answer the second charge, with Barton appearing to aim a headbutt in the direction of the Belgian defender during Sunday's final Premier League game at Eastlands.

The midfielder was shown a red card for swinging an elbow at Carlos Tevez, but before he left the field he felled Aguero with a kick to the back of the legs, went head to head with Kompany and had to be pulled away from Mario Balotelli.

The shameful scenes did not overshadow City's thrilling, last-gasp title success, and Barton is now facing the prospect of a lengthy ban. Barton receives an automatic four-game ban for the red card, as he had previously been sent off this season, and now faces a ban of at least seven matches which could rise to double figures if he is found guilty of the Kompany headbutt.

A statement released on the FA's website read: "Joey Barton has accepted an FA charge against him for violent conduct against Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

"The Queens Park Rangers player has denied a second charge of alleged violent conduct against Manchester City's Vincent Kompany. The player has requested a personal hearing, the date of which has yet to be set.

"Both charges against Barton are in relation to Sunday's match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

"Following the player's dismissal in the 54th minute of the fixture, there followed two incidents involving Aguero and Kompany. As Barton had already been dismissed, both of these incidents fell outside of the jurisdiction of the referee."
