Swans chairman dismisses Rodgers meeting as routine

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has played down the significance of Tuesday's meeting with manager Brendan Rodgers, insisting it is purely routine.

Rumours of Rodgers becoming the new Liverpool manager refuse to go away, with Tuesday's meeting with Jenkins only fuelling speculation further that he is heading for the Liberty Stadium exit door.

Rodgers turned down an opportunity to speak with the Reds about replacing Kenny Dalglish earlier this month but, having returned from a trip to the United States, the Northern Irishman has set tongues wagging on Merseyside once again.

"We would like to confirm that there has been no contact from Liverpool and nothing has changed since our previous statement on the issue," said Swansea in a statement on their official website.

Roberto Martinez had emerged as the favourite to succeed Dalglish after holding talks with the club's American owners - Fenway Sports Group - in Miami last week. However, Martinez was tight-lipped as he touched down in Manchester on Tuesday following a break in Barbados.

Latics chairman Dave Whelan has given Martinez a deadline of Thursday to reach a deal with Liverpool.
