Aquilani's Liverpool future still up in the air

Alberto Aquilani says he cannot make the "right decision" about his future until Liverpool have named their new manager.

Out of favour at Liverpool, Aquilani has found himself farmed out on loan in the last two seasons, firstly at Juventus and then at fellow Serie A outfit AC Milan.

The Italy midfielder may have endured an unhappy time at Liverpool but he says there is still a chance he will be playing at Anfield in 2012-13, so long as the club appoint a successor to Kenny Dalglish sooner rather than later.

"I need to understand whether there are conditions for an agreement that satisfies everyone," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I'm waiting for Liverpool to decide the name of the new coach, then we will meet in order to understand their plans. Only then will I be able to make the right decision.

"It is important that I have the opportunity to make a contribution, to be able to play well and play regularly."

Liverpool will have to renegotiate with AC Milan if they are to sell Aquilani this summer. When the 27-year-old joined them last year there was a clause inserted in the deal that would see him move to the San Siro permanently for €8 million (£6.4 million) should he make 25 appearances.

However, the player failed to hit that target and, although Milan still have an option to force the transfer through for the same amount before the end of the month, vice-president Adriano Galliani has said they will not be pursuing the deal at that price.

With Aquilani's future up in the air, his agent says it is imperative the identity of the new Liverpool manager is known before any decisions can be made.

"The situation is that there have been no developments," Franco Zavaglia told spaziomilan.it. "We must be patient and wait for Liverpool to make a decision. There is no problem, but before talking about what Alberto wants to do we must first understand what the British club intend to do."
